Hey there, sorry if I'm bothering, it took me a friggin day and an age to find another South African. I recently joined tumblr in a futile attempt to try and meet new people. Basically what I want to ask, how the hell does one meet other girls in SA?? How did you do it? I'm studying in Potch (I'm a 22 girl btw), but I'm hesitant to just come out ya know? Hey there 😊 no worries, you’re definitely not bothering me. I totally understand your struggle. I believe here in SA we are a little behind in terms of being out and open about our sexuality, mainly due to people around us not being very accepting of it 🙈 Now… it is getting better but we are still nowhere near other Westernized countries. I think that’s why it’s hard for women to find other women here AND why so many women prefer to stay hidden in the closet 😕- which doesn’t help our case.
I also turned to Tumblr but also found it difficult to find South Africans, haha. There are a few other ways you can try meet other women. Tinder, the dating app, is always an option… but just be sure to be safe and careful about meeting people online ✌️What I did when I wanted to start meeting girls is I joined a woman’s soccer team 😏…. As cliche as it sounds, gay woman do like their sports, so you could try there? Hockey, soccer, rugby (I’m sure you’ll find at least one gay woman there - a found a few 😊). From there I just made friends and met girls through my new gay friends at soccer… and my circles expanded 😊 I met my current girlfriend through friends, so that’s always an option too.
As for coming out, I know it is difficult, but trust me… life is so much better once you come out and you are able to be yourself. Saying that tho - make sure you are ready to come out and are comfortable with doing so. Do you have a support circle? Family for friends you feel close to and can trust? I suggest opening up to them first maybe?
